Thailand Charities in Thailand are hard at work trying to establish a social and economical balance in a society where much of the population lives in extreme poverty. The capital city of Bangkok is teeming with slums where many who have migrated from rural areas are living under horrific conditions. The Thai government is hard pressed to keep up with the epidemic of HIV infections resulting from the flourishing sex industry in Bangkok. Given the overwhelming number of health, educational and living condition problems facing the country, Thailand charities are hard at work.

Charities focused on children seem to be the best way to invest in the strength of the Thai people. The pace of technology growth is, at best, difficult to keep up with and often impossible in an impoverished country. Thailand charity organizations such as The Simtokha School and Orphanage in Thimpu Butan dedicate their causes to giving Thai children the opportunity to fall in line and keep pace with ever-changing growth and modernization. The institution blends its modern secular curriculum with the traditional spiritual values of the culture. Since, in Thailand, many families are not even able to afford a free education; this opportunity ensures health and economical stability for generations to follow.

Thailand charities see that the women in the culture are benefitting from education and opportunity while at the same time retaining the spiritual tradition of their culture. Thai charity organizations such as Amicus, teach women to minister to the needs of their society. They are taught the skills of counseling families in crisis, feeding the hungry as well as consoling the dying. The Thai women participating in these programs are highly motivated and display a tremendous amount of compassion. They become role models, thus inspiring other women in the community to follow suit. The snowball effect can have a huge impact in steering a declining community and country in a positive, strong direction.

Charities in Thailand are not just drawn to the urban areas. Many, such as “SOS Children’s Villages,” have set up operations in suburban and agricultural locations close to but not in the middle of commercial centers. These villages are comprised of family style residences as well as nursery schools not just attended by SOS residents but by local children. The charity has set up homes for older boys and provided them the guidelines to become self-reliant and thus contribute to the economy of their region.
